How Do you Improve Your EQ?

It’s wonderful and amazing that the concept of Emotional Intelligence is moving into the mainstream conversations around mental health, work/life balance, and interpersonal relationships these days. It’s becoming more and widely accepted that our ability to identify and manage our own emotions has a profound impact on our happiness, as well as our success in the professional world. Even more helpful are the skills that help us understand our impact on the people around us, and that help us learn how to communicate these feelings.

But while the topic of EQ is becoming more normal, we still don’t have many mainstream avenues for learning HOW to increase our skills in this area, outside of therapy, which can be hit or miss depending upon the therapist your insurance just so happens to cover.

Which is why we created the EQ School - which is focused on the HOW.

It’s easy to read books on WHAT emotional intelligence is, but they often fall short when we start bringing in our individual situations and the struggles we face in regard to difficult conversations at work, or as we try to set boundaries with our parents or adult children.

To increase your emotional intelligence, you need to learn tools and skills that allow you to PRACTICE the 4 areas; self awareness, self management, social awareness, and relationship management.

To learn self-awareness, you have to be start paying attention to your body and your emotions; getting familiar with what drives you, what drains you, and what triggers you, among other things.

To learn self-management, you have to pay attention to your emotions and learn to identify what your needs are and learn how to get them met. You have to learn to identify the stories you’re telling about the world, and learn skills for taking breaks and reframing.

To learn social awareness and relationship management, you have to learn how to communicate effectively, especially when your emotions are heightened. You can learn tools for building rapport with people you care about, and begin to let them in.

So if you want to start practicing HOW to increase your emotional intelligence, jump into one of our workshops and we’ll start giving you the tools to build the skills in each of these areas.
